How does it work?

In a world where immediacy is king, constant changes and developments in techniques and materials are in overdrive mode! On-demand manufacturing essentially means manufacturing products only when needed and only the quantities required. The emergence and growth of on-demand manufacturing is down to two factors. First, the Internet and the advent of new Cloud technologies enabling more exchange, more transparency and more traceability between customers and suppliers. Second, the entry cost of technologies enabling companies to internally integrate production resources.

On-demand manufacturing has multiple advantages, enabling us to address the various limitations of traditional production systems.

• One of the first advantages we notice is the low production volume it generates. This gives us greater customization scope to adapt to changing consumer habits.
• Advantage number two: on-demand manufacturing is an innovation booster, particularly in terms of speed of execution and fast turnaround, but also for its multiprototyping capabilities on a single project.
• Another advantage is greater control over production, meaning less waste as you only produce the quantities required.
• Last but not least, on-demand manufacturing makes relocating easier for companies by encouraging the emergence of smaller production centers.

All of this means on-demand manufacturing is supported by the emergence of platforms. In some cases, these platforms are effective marketplaces, bringing subcontractors together and facilitating discussions between customers and suppliers.
