Background

BIOVIA understands that some customers may want to run their Oracle databases on the Oracle Exadata Database Machine. This Technote outlines BIOVIA’s current position with regard to using BIOVIA Direct 2020 and later in that environment. Note that this Technote explicitly applies to the Oracle Exadata Database Machine and does not include the cloud-based Oracle Exadata offerings.

Solution

The Oracle Exadata Database Machine is an Oracle engineered system that is running the Oracle database on Intel x86_64 hardware with the Oracle Linux operating system. BIOVIA ran full tests of BIOVIA Direct 2020 with Oracle Linux 7 on Intel x86_64 compatible hardware, and announced support for this environment with the release of BIOVIA Direct 2020. Based on that, and along with basic testing of BIOVIA Direct on the specific Oracle Exadata Database Machine hardware, BIOVIA herewith declares support for BIOVIA Direct 2020 on the Oracle Exadata Database Machine running Oracle Linux 7. Support is limited to particular Oracle Database versions as outlined in the following paragraph.

As noted in Technote T09-2020, BIOVIA discovered a compatibility issue with BIOVIA Direct 2020 with Oracle 18c and 19c. This issue may cause particular queries in the BIOVIA Direct product to return incorrect results or errors with these Oracle versions. At the time of the release of this Technote, Oracle has only provided a patch for this issue specifically for the Release Update 3 of Oracle 19c (i.e. 19.3.0.0.0) on the Linux platform. Consequently, the above declared support for BIOVIA Direct 2020 on the Oracle Exadata Database Machine applies specifically for the Oracle versions 12c R2 (12.2.0.1) and Oracle 19c Release Update 3 (19.3.0.0.0).
