CATIA V5 Brings Faster Time-To-Market and Cutting Edge Analysis Capabilities to ThinkPad Z60 Notebook Design

Lenovo upgrades to CATIA Version 5

Paris, France, September 27, 2005 – Dassault Systèmes (NASDAQ:DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), the world's leading developer of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, announced today that the new ThinkPad Z60 with ‘roll cage’ technology  Lenovo's first widescreen multimedia notebook  was designed with CATIA V5, the same software used by worldwide industry giants such as Boeing, Airbus, Toyota and DaimlerChrysler.

The ThinkPad development team has used CATIA for several years to help with the design process for ThinkPad systems. CATIA V5's design and analysis capabilities were key to the development of the ThinkPad Z60 and enabled Lenovo to bring the model to market faster.

The ThinkPad Z60 is the first widescreen multimedia ThinkPad notebook with integrated wireless wide-area network technology, designed for mobile and small business users who rely on one notebook computer for both work and life demands. At 1.1-inches thick and just 4.2 pounds, the 14-inch ThinkPad Z60t is the thinnest and lightest widescreen notebook in its class. The Z60t boasts 25 percent more viewing area than a standard 14-inch screen, the equivalent of four additional spreadsheet columns, offering a productive solution to business users who often work with multiple applications simultaneously.

The ThinkPad Z60 also features a new inner armor chassis – a ‘roll cage’ – that reduces the amount of stress on internal components when the notebook is dropped. The internal components, including the hard disk drive, are mounted in a one-piece magnesium cage that forms a more protective shell than traditional casings without affecting usability. Combined with Lenovo’s Active Protection System, a ThinkVantage Technology, the ThinkPad roll cage provides a strong solution to defend against costly damage.

“We are focused on delivering innovation that will help customers become more productive and in creating the first ThinkPad with ‘roll cage’ technology, the Lenovo team needed sophisticated design tools to help us model this unique component,” said Steve Ward, CEO, Lenovo. “The roll cage was constructed to provide collision protection at every angle, and to help absorb shock if a ThinkPad gets dropped. CATIA V5's design and analysis capabilities provided our team with the precision we needed to design the new ThinkPad Z60.”

“The CATIA portfolio’s leadership is again reconfirmed by Lenovo’s successful use of CATIA V5,” said Joel Lemke, CEO, ENOVIA and General Manager, PLM Americas, Dassault Systèmes. “A ThinkPad user can be secure, knowing that their critical data is safe inside a reliable, durable ThinkPad Z60 designed in the industry’s leading innovation and design software.”
