Worldwide implementation of 700 ENOVIAVPM licenses

Paris, France, 8 November 2000--IBM and Dassault Systemes (NASDAQ: DASTY, Bourse de Paris) announced today that ALSTOM Transport, has selected ENOVIA products for the development and the management of the company’s entire railway systems product line. The contract includes the purchase of 700 licenses of ENOVIAVPM and the implementation of 1250 ENOVIA V5 licenses by January 2002. An estimated 2500 professionals at 20 sites worldwide will eventually use ENOVIA, making it ALSTOM Transport’s standard product lifecycle management (PLM) solution.

ALSTOM Transport designs and manufactures railway systems. Highly complex to manufacture, a railway system comprises an important number of components and equipment. ALSTOM Transport shares design and manufacturing activities among several sites. By using ENOVIAvpm, ALSTOM Transport can manage these tasks with efficiency, reuse standard parts easily, implement modifications early in the development process, and decrease cycle time on part modifications. ALSTOM Transport engineers will use ENOVIA, along with the company’s 450 existing licenses of CATIA Solutions, to define and manage all products digitally throughout their life. ALSTOM Transport anticipates reducing design modification time by 20 percent.

Said Jean Pierre Combarré, program director, ALSTOM Transport Digital Model Assembly Global Solution (DMAGS), “Using ENOVIAVPM , we will be able to optimize data exchange and collaborative work throughout our company around a unique Product-Process engineering reference.

Added Stephan Rambaud-Measson, ALSTOM Transport senior vice president technology and quality, “Our decision is more than just the choice of a PLM solution. It’s part of an e-business approach with IBM as we intend to capitalize on the experience, technology and e-business alliances of IBM through the extended enterprise.”

Scott Hopkins, vice president digital enterprise sales, IBM Product Lifecycle Management, commented, “Our e-business expertise, combined with our experience in providing solutions to the world’s leading railway companies, will enable us to meet ALSTOM Transport’s most stringent demands for engineering collaboration, and help them keep their position as one of the world leaders.

Said Bernard Charles, president of Dassault Systemes, “We are delighted to count ALSTOM Transport as a member of the list of prestigious customers who have embraced our Digital Enterprise vision as keys to creating a collaborative environment and capitalizing on new corporate-wide standards for improving innovation, while speeding up risk validation processes.
